Great Blue Heron, catching a sunfish.
This photo was taken on June 30th, 2013.  It's hard to believe that it was nearly 12 years ago! It took a lot of patience to capture the moment.  I was hand holding my camera and a fairly heavy telephoto lens, trying to hold it steady, waiting for the heron to strike, for minutes.  My arm was cramping and it seemed to take forever, but the result is totally worth it.  I got the whole sequence, from the moment the heron's head went into the water, up to it eating the fish, but THIS is the signature moment for me, with the water dripping from the fish - a moment frozen forever in time.

I've taken thousands of images, since this one, may of them of other herons fishing.  But this one is intensely personal for me and it will always be incredibly special!

    1. I've captured other pictures of herons catching fish, but this one remains the crowning one, for me. The angle of the bird, the interesting other elements. There are things in this photo that cannot readily be replicated, by any other photo I capture.

    1. Yeah, I don't think other fish are going to give me a "like" for this one! LOL
